Acolyte

Regan was an acolyte at chapel today. All of the kindergartner's get a turn and this was her Wednesday. I was a little concerned, because apparently whoever gets to school first gets to pick what they want. Well, you know that she wanted the cross with the jewels on it. The only problem was, the other little girl who was acolyting with her is the daughter of a teacher. Regan is always one of the first to be dropped off, but we can't get there before the teacher's. Which, as a side note, she sometimes waits with her mom in carpool line so that she can walk in with Regan. I'll have to ask Regan, but I guess the other little girl wanted the flag. So it all worked out.

Houston Weekend

We went to Houston this weekend so that Regan and I could see Mary Poppins. I wanted to see it when we were in New York, but I thought it was a little much to do two broadway shows in one trip. You can imagine my excitement when I found out it was coming to Houston. And I was ecstatic when I found out that Broadway is finally coming back to New Orleans.
Matt took Addison to the Aquarium that was right next door to the play. He said it wasn't very good fishwise, but they had other things to do. They rode the ferris wheel once (which I thought was crazy, but apparently Addison really liked it) and the carousel (or merry go round as Addison calls it) five times.
The show was really good. I think that they make them a little long for kids and it stresses Regan out a little that they change it from the movie, but it was really well done. She was particularly impressed with the step in time number, because Bert walks up the wall and onto the ceiling.
After the show we went back to the hotel. Our hotel had a complimentary shuttle service to anywhere in a three mile radius, so we took that to the Galleria. We had a little dinner and did a little shopping and then called it a night. On Sunday morning we found a little cafe and ate breakfast outside and then drove home. It was a really nice weekend.

Muffin

So, Addison has decided that she is going to be a muffin when she grows up. This was an exchange between Addison and Regan about her becoming a muffin.

Addison: I'm going to be a muffin when I grow up.

Regan: I'm going to eat you.

Addison: I'm going to eat myself.

Bones

Apparently, they are studying bones in science because Regan rubbed on her jaw bone the other day and told me that she learned in science that it was the Mandible. I didn't know that it was called that, so I looked it up on the internet. Thank goodness for the internet is all I have to say. Then tonight Regan was showing me the thigh bone and Addison pops up with this is the top of your head (pointing to the top of her head) it's called the cranium. I was, of course, amazed. I asked her where she learned that, thinking that it would be Dora (that's where she gets a lot of her information) but she told me that Ms. Marcy told them in music class.

Global Wildlife

On Sunday we took the kid's to Global Wildlife. It is a very cool place. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of telling Regan not to feed the Zebras because they bite and then she didn't want to feed any of the animals. I finally talked her into it after we had passed all of the really good animals. Oh well! Next time!

Halloween

Matt and I ran in a half marathon on Saturday morning. Then we went over to the North Shore and trick or treated with the Phil Manning's. It was a lot of fun! The girl's were very happy to see their Granny and their cousin's. And I would just like to say that nothing comes between Addison and her candy. She is not scared of men, strangers, or dog's when it comes to candy. Halloween is definitely her favorite holiday!

Evening Spent in the ER

I, personally, believe that everyone is lucky to make it into adulthood. Addison seems to want to test that theory more than the average kid. I'm not sure how it happened, even though I was sitting right next to her, but she fell off of one of the dining room chairs last night onto the floor. She, of course, started crying and then she promptly threw up. I took her to the emergency room. They did a ct scan and it came back negative. So, we think everything is okay but we are keeping a close eye on her for the next 24 hours. Mainly, I am hoping that we didn't pick up something extra while we were at the ER.

Pumpkin Patch Part 2

We went to the pumpkin patch with the Daisy Scouts yesterday. They watched a movie about the life cycle of a pumpkin. They danced. They were told a pumpkin story. They went on a hayride. It was a lot of fun! And then Regan went to dancing and had a Halloween party. She was exhausted by the end of the day! At first we didn't want her to do Daisy Scouts, because we already have so much going on. But now I'm glad that we are. It's a good group of girls and it is only once a month.

Pumpkin Patch

We are going to the pumpkin patch tomorrow with Daisy Scouts, but I wanted to get a picture of the girls in their cute fall dresses. So, we went today after church. It's all about priorities. : )
It is virtually impossible to get a picture of Addison looking at the camera and smiling. She likes to look everywhere, but the camera. Fortunately, Regan will continue looking and smiling while I try to get Addison to look and smile.

Asbury's Trunk or Treat

After Emory's birthday party, we headed over to his and Addison's school for the annual trunk or treat. The kid's trick or treat out of the trunks. And then they have games inside for the kids. Regan was mostly interested in the face painting and the cookie walk. I think she would walk around in a circle all day. Addison loved getting treats. Halloween is definitely her favorite holiday.

Emory's 3rd Birthday

Addison's best friend Emory's birthday party this weekend. It was a costume party, so the kid's wore their costumes. They had a lot of fun!

It's all about the costume...

While I was out running on Saturday, the girls wanted to go in the backyard and play soccer. Of course, they had to put on the appropriate costumes. Addison has on a baseball t-shirt that she borrowed from her best friend, Emory, that we have never given back. If it were up to Addison, this is how she would dress every day. Regan had to put on her soccer gear from her very short stint as a soccer player. Thankfully, we have two princess balls.

Regan's first kindergarten parent/teacher conference

I am proud to report that Regan had another good parent/teacher conference. She got the highest marks on everything except coins. She got a with help on that because she got the nickel and the dime confused. She is also being put in the accelerated reading program. Her teacher says that she has very strong phonic skills (thank you leap frog letter factory).

Here are her teacher's comments:

Regan is a wonderful student. She is well prepared academically. She is always helpful, listens well and is cooperative. She always participates - that deep voice is hard to miss! She seems to really enjoy all activities at school.

Her teacher seems to really love Regan.... and a teacher that loves Regan is a teacher that I love.

Onions

I think I have mentioned before that Addison loves onions. After 20+ years of ordering my hamburger without onions at McDonalds, I have started ordering my hamburger with onions so that I can give her my onions and she still wants more. So, the other day out of habit I ordered my hamburger without onions. From the backseat I hear Addison yelling.... don't order it without onions! I like onions! I immediately remembered and asked the lady to add the onions back on my hamburger.

The other thing she does is when she's tired she says "Mommy, I'm not tired a little bit."

Our Little Puppy Dog

Pinkalicious

It was a rainy day today, so we decided to make cupcakes. We also made some egg carton bugs, but we haven't finished them so I will have pictures of those later. I wanted to make the cupcakes (or pupcakes as Addison kept calling them) from scratch, so that the kid's would have an opportunity to put in the ingredients. I looked online and found an "easy cupcake" recipe. I need to search for other recipes, because these weren't the best tasting cupcakes. They weren't bad, but they could have been better. But the kid's had fun and that is the important thing. Matt tried to convince them to leave a few without sprinkles. He succeeded in convincing Regan not to put sprinkles on one (probably because she had no real interest in eating them). But Addison could not be convinced (probably because she had every intention of eating her fair share).
