Regan's First Trip to the Dentist
Regan had her first trip to the dentist today. It went better than I expected. She, of course, was not to keen on them poking around in her mouth. She barely lets ME brush her teeth. They said that her enamel is well developed, and she has no cavities. They also said that she has shallow grooves in her teeth, which means she is less likely to get food stuck in them. Yay! They want me to floss her teeth, but as I said she barely lets me brush them. So, I think we will just stick with the brushing for now. We don't have to give her the poli-flouride vitamins anymore, which is a good thing, because she started refusing to take them a couple of months ago. I was very happy to hear that she has nice, healthy teeth. Let's hope they stay that way.

Fire Station Tour

Today we visited a fire station with playgroup. The kids listened to the fireman talk about fire safety. As you can tell from the picture, Regan payed close attention to that. I hope this doesn't mean she has my listening skills. : ) The kids also watched a video about fire safety. They had a remote control firetruck with a dalmation in it named "sparky." He sang stop, drop and roll. Regan wasn't to sure about it at first, but she got into the singing. Then the kids went into the fire station's "safe house," which is a trailor that they have set up in the station. It produces smoke and then an alarm goes off and the kids crawl to safety. Lastly, they got to go in the fire truck. Regan did this without me without any prompting. I was surprised. Her favorite part, of course, was getting the plastic firemen's hat. All in all it was a good field trip. Not to over the kids head's....and I guess it's never to soon to start teaching fire safety.

Rhythms on the River

Rhythms on the River is a concert series that is held in a Lafayette Community called River Ranch. It is held behind our gym in the "town square" in the spring and fall. It is a really nice family event and tonight we joined a family that we know from playgroup. Regan had a lot of fun dancing and following her little friend Trey or "Prey" around.
Regan's Animal Puzzle
| We are at an inbetween stage where the peg puzzles are a little easy for her, but she needs help doing the small jigsaw puzzles. She does like doing the peg puzzles and naming what she is putting in the puzzle. | |

Playing with the "big" boys
Yesterday one of our four year old neighbor's, Alex, came over to play with Regan.....until he saw the "big boy" and his friends playing across the street (they are probably around nine) and then he went over there. Well, Regan followed him. I heard him tell her "No, Regan you can't play over here....these are big boy's." Well, she looked at him like I am going to do what I want to do and plopped herself down with them and started putting rocks in their bucket. I do have to give the older kids credit, because they didn't tell her to get lost. However, it could have been because I was in close proximity. Whatever the case, it was the cutest thing to see her make herself right at home as if she was thinking why wouldn't they want to play with me.
She had another rough day at school today. I just keep hoping that it will get better as she gets adjusted. One of her teacher's thinks so, the other one doesn't seem convinced. I am going with the more positive outlook. : )

Bookstore

We went to the bookstore this morning with Regan. Regan likes to look at the books and play with the "choo choo." It is one of our favorite things to do as a family. Especially when it is hot, which it is....AGAIN!!! It's October, and it is supposed to be in the 90's this whole week. I am so tired of hot weather.
Last week was a busy week. One of our playgroup friends who recently moved was in town Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon. We hosted a barbeque for our playgroup friends Tuesday night, and went to the park Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures from either. Oh well! A good time was had by all. It's always nice to get use out of our patio. Especially when the weather is nice, which it was. Regan had school on Thursday. She got a happy, friendly, busy, tearful report....but they said they almost called me. Apparently she was fine the first hour until they took them outside. Which is so weird to me, because she LOVES to be outside. From what they told me, it sounds like she had a "fake" cry for most of the rest of the day. Which might have been made worse by them trying to console her. Regan does much better when you either ignore her or distract her. Hopefully we will all get this figured out soon! Cross your fingers. : ) Friday we had music class and we went to the zoo with one of my neighbors. Regan LOVES the zoo. So much so that she wanted to go again yesterday. Needless to say, I was exhausted by the end of the week! I have been lucky enough to get some extra rest this weekend, and I am looking forward to a low key week ahead.

DSCN0565.MOV
| Above is a video of Regan singing some of her favorite songs. I recorded it on my digital camera, so the lighting is not the best. Also, she just got out of her bath....but you have to catch her when you can. She does not like to be videoed...she likes to see herself on t.v., but she does not like to have the camera on her. She hasn't quite figured out that you can't have one without the other. Yesterday was not a good day at school for Regan. She got a tearful report, and she didn't nap very well or eat very much. There was a little girl there that was new and was having a hard time, so I worried that this would affect Regan's day. And for some reason they didn't warm up her food. But they said that they are having problems with her telling them no for everything. They said she is very smart, but defiant. This, of course, made me feel like a failure as a mother. But I have been reassured that she is two, and that this is a phase that I will have to help her grow out of. I told her that she has to listen to her teacher's, and she can't tell them no. She said "I know." Her teacher's said that is what she tells them when they tell her that. I feel a little helpless, so any advice would be appreciated. I do feel that she is basically a good, sweet kid....but she does come from to hard headed parents..... So, what to do? | |

28 week visit for Addison
We had an ultrasound today. They said I have a little extra amniotic fluid, but it is better to have a little more than to little. Everything else looks good. She has a big head....like her big sister. They also could see hair, which she must get from her father. She is 2 lbs and 9 oz. The c-section is scheduled for December 13th.

Bubbles

Regan loves to blow bubbles. Unfortunately, she didn't want to use the spill proof bubbles today.
Yesterday she had a pretty good day at school. She ate, but didn't nap. Hopefully she will nap on Tuesday, because it does not make for a fun evening when she doesn't nap. Her report said friendly and tearful.

Busy Weekend

This past weekend was the baptism of our nephew and my godson Reid. All I can say is, thank goodness for cry rooms in the Catholic Church because Regan was in rare form. First of all, she did not want to be in the cry room during the service and kept saying "I want to go out there." But I wanted no part of that since Regan doesn't know the meaning of quiet and there is no telling when she will just burst into song....especially if music is playing. Well, then at the christening....which was after church, and therefore in the sanctuary..... she wanted to go on the alter to see the flowers. Nothing would do, but that so Matt ended up in the cry room with her again with her yelling I go see mommy the whole time. It was lovely.
We left for New Orleans the Friday before the Christening. Phil and Georgina brought the kids over to play that evening. The girl's play really well together, as long as there isn't a toy they both want. I think they will grow up to be really close, and I am so happy for that.
On Saturday we went to the zoo. It was really hot! I think we should have waited until October to go for the first time this season, but Regan has been asking to see the monkey's and the elephant's ever since we left New Orlean's last time.
On Tuesday I had a spa day with my friend Shannon, and it was wonderful! Matt's mom was kind enough to watch Regan.

Regan's Fourth Day of School
Today we had a Happy, Friendly, Busy report. She kissed me goodbye this morning, but had her lip poked out so I thought I would get tearful in my report. But it looks like she had a good day. She took a very short nap, and boy does it show. We are going to have a low key evening and possibly an early bedtime. She still isn't eating, but I explained to the teachers (again) that she drinks a lot of milk and sometimes just doesn't eat very much. She won't go to school on Tuesday as we will be in New Orleans for Reid's Christening, but I think that due to her lack of concept of time and incredible memory it shouldn't be to hard to return on Thursday.

Regan's Third Day of School
When I dropped her off today she gave me a kiss, and there were no tears. Her report said Happy, Friendly and Tearful. So, I guess she had tears at some point during the day. She napped on her nap mat for an hour and a half. We were very impressed by that, because we weren't sure she would. She is still not eating at school. I think the teacher's are concerned, but I figure she will eat when she is hungry. All in all it was a good first long day.

Friday & Saturday

Yesterday we had our first Kindermusic class of the fall. Regan loved it, of course. The teacher is awesome! All of the kid's love her. It is fun to watch your child grow up in a class like this. To see things that she can do this semester that she couldn't do last. Regan has always participated, but was a little timid with going to get things and putting them away. This summer she got better, and now she is one of the first kids up there. I also see her motor skills improving. I really love this class!
Yesterday was also Matt's birthday. He turned the big 28. I would like to take this time to say what a great father and husband Matt is. Regan and I are very lucky to have him. We went out to dinner, and our friends the Meche's (Regan's Ga Ga and Uncle Karl....our Lafayette family) were very kind to babysit for us.
Today we went to the Meche kid's (Catherine and Conner) soccer game. Catherine scored three goals in her game and Conner played really well. It rained a little bit, and Catherine let Regan borrow her umbrella. It got very hot after the rain (read: sauna), but it was fun to watch the kids play.

Regan's Second Day of School
As I suspected, we had tears today when I left. She was fine walking into school, but when the teacher's said "let's go color" she started to cry. That was my cue to kiss her goodbye and leave. When I picked her up they said she had a good day. Her report said Happy, Friendly, Busy and Quiet. I am very proud of her. I suspect that next week might be more of an adjustment as they start napping at school and staying until 2pm. We shall see how that goes.

Yummy Popsicle

We went to the zoo today with Playgroup. All of the kids got popsicle's at the snack bar, and Regan really enjoyed her's. This is only the beginning. By the time she finished it was all down her shirt. Thank goodness for Oxyclean!
Tomorrow is our second day of school. When I picked her up yesterday she was not crying, but had tears in her eyes and was very happy to see me. Her report said "tearful." But I don't think she was traumatized because she sang all the way home. We did take a very short nap, and did not sleep well last night. I am sure that once we get through the "transition" period, everything will be fine. I also think tomorrow will be a harder drop off.

Regan's First Day of School
Today is Regan's first day of MDO. I dropped her off and she was the only child that wasn't crying. She went straight for the Elmo, of course. But she was coloring when I was leaving, and looking around like why are all of these kid's crying. She gave me a kiss, and I told her I would be back later. Hopefully, she won't start crying because all of the other kids are crying. And most importantly....that every drop off will be this easy. Is that wishful thinking? Stay tuned....
